Regional Museum Lienz

Bruck Castle houses the Regional Museum Lienz with its impressive Egger-Lienz Gallery

Inside the mighty walls of Bruck Castle from the 13th century, the museum of the town of Lienz in East Tyrol is located. The building is in possession of the township, also numerous cultural events take place in the castle and its courtyard. At the entrance, a heavy bronze bull welcomes the guests, an artwork of the East Tyrolean sculptor Jos Pirkner.

The exhibition inside the castle draws a line from prehistory until today: findings from early times and the Roman town Aguntum near Lienz are shown as well as objects of the East Tyrolean folklore, like looms and costumes, and a natural history collection. Presence can be found in the castle tower in the form of a photo exhibition "Tirol Archiv Photographie". The western wing houses contemporary art.

But the Regional Museum Lienz is especially known because of its Egger-Lienz Gallery, one of the biggest public collections of the East Tyrolean expressionist Albin Egger-Lienz (1868 - 1926). Among his famous artworks are "Der Totentanz" and "Sämann und der Teufel". By the way: the museum was awarded the Austrian Museum Certification in 2006.
